HICKORY, NC (October 11, 2023) – Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital, has been named by U.S. News & World Report to its 2023-2024 Best Hospitals as a High Performing hospital for Heart Attack and Heart Failure. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.
The annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures.
Frye Regional Medical Center earned the High Performing hospital ratings for Heart Attack and Heart Failure in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors such as patient outcomes.
“Frye Regional is dedicated to providing high quality care for all our patients,” said Philip Greene, MD, chief executive officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “Recognition on a national level is exciting news for our hospital – but exceeding the expectations of the patients we are privileged to serve is a goal we focus on every day. Being rated as a Best Hospital for cardiovascular care is a direct reflection of our team’s commitment to great patient outcomes and our mission of making communities healthier.”
For its 2023-2024 Best Hospitals ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
“For 34 years, U.S. News has provided data-informed rankings to help patients and their doctors find the best hospital to treat their illness or condition,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “Fewer than half of evaluated hospitals earned any High Performing rating. Hospitals that are High Performing have excelled in providing high quality care in specific procedures and/or conditions.”
Frye Regional Heart Center, a Duke Health affiliate in heart, is backed by the resources of Duke Health, which provides the most current training and staff education, and access to the latest evidence-based guidelines for heart care.
Frye Regional is also an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) by the American College of Cardiology. Accredited Chest Pain Centers are designed to enhance patient care by decreasing the time to treatment for heart attack.
“We’re so proud of our entire team for their work in achieving this top ranking for our heart center,” said Brett Starr, MD, medical director of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Frye Regional and a Duke affiliate faculty member. “This designation as a High Performing hospital, along with other national accolades, provides further validation of what we all know to be true – our doctors and staff are dedicated to a comprehensive team approach to provide a higher level of care for our patients and community.”
