Frye Regional Medical Center Celebrates Renovated Inpatient Rehab Unit
Modernization enhances patient care and reflects commitment to community
HICKORY, NC (April 15, 2025) – Frye Regional Medical Center, a Duke LifePoint hospital, celebrated the major renovation and modernization project of its sixth-floor Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit on Tuesday, April 15. The newly updated unit now features four private rooms and eight semi-private rooms, offering a total of 20 beds, each designed to enhance patient care, comfort and recovery.
Hospital representatives, community leaders, government officials and supporters gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was followed by a tour of the unit.
“Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit plays a critical role in helping patient’s recover and regain their independence,” said Philip Greene, MD, Chief Executive Officer of Frye Regional Medical Center. “By providing top-quality rehabilitation services close to home, we continue to fulfill our mission of making communities healthier®. This newly renovated space will allow us to offer an even higher level of care and comfort to our patients as they embark on their recovery journey.”
Each patient room has been thoughtfully designed to provide enhanced comfort and mobility. Features include ADA-accessible bathrooms with seated showers, support bars, ample lighting and spacious layouts to encourage patient independence. The renovation also included more than 8,000 square feet of new flooring, upgraded countertops and cabinetry, fresh paint and expanded nurse’s station. To further enhance the rehabilitation experience, the unit includes:
· Activities of Daily Living areas that feature a bathroom, kitchen and washer/dryer, allowing patients to practice essential life skills in a realistic environment.
· A state-of-the-art therapy gym, fully equipped to help patients rebuild strength and skills as they transition from the hospital to home.
